San Diego Continuing Education (SDCE) is the adult education institution within the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD). SDCE is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) on a seven-year basis.
Accreditation standards are important to maintain because they keep our institution at a high level of excellence in how we organize and present our curriculum. When students attend a class, or when businesses and local community groups look to us for partnerships, they know they are working with first-rate educators and staff. SDCE is currently accredited through June 2024 and is continually documenting and improving processes to maintain accreditation on an ongoing basis.
Significant parts of accreditation are development of the Mid-Cycle Progress Report in 2021 and the Self Study Report in 2024. These reports are submitted to WASC prior to a team visit to our campuses.
Student Learning Outcomes
WASC and the State Academic Senate are committed to moving institutions to a learner-centered model that includes Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) at all levels of instruction. SLOs define the specific knowledge, skills and abilities that we expect our students to master in our classes and programs. As part of the cycle of assessment, data is reviewed, analyzed and acted upon at all levels of the institution.
SDCE currently has institutional, program and course level SLOs and is actively revisiting the development of SLOs at all three levels as a means of Building on Success through Critical Self-Examination. SDCE is also in the process of establishing a fifth institutional SLO that reflects commitment to diversity and social justice.
