SDCE held a virtual town-hall-style meeting as part of the SDCE In Focus: Social Justice in Action series of workshops for students, faculty, classified professionals, and administrators. Nearly 100 people attended the meeting, "Tell Your Story Before They Do" presented by MovementBe's Nate Howard.
SDCE's Career and College Transition Centers (CCTC) participated with SDCCD colleges to recognize National Career Development week to present: Navigating the Workplace During a Racial Reckoning as a Black Person. CCTC also held a virtual resume workshop for students interested specifically in gaining employment with the federal government. Rising to Success continues to update the online resource guide providing students, staff, and community access to real-time resources available during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This week I made several presentations including (1) a case study at the San Diego Adult Education Regional Consortium's virtual meeting, which focused on the success of SDCE's San Diego Gateway to College and Career program and collaboration with the WIOA I. I also presented (2) an interactive breakout session at the "Guided Pathways Workshop: Designing with Equity and Careers in Mind hosted by the Career Ladders Project, (3) Visionary Talent Sourcing: Not the Usual Suspects and (4) Reimagining the Learner/Talent Marketplace at the Close It Summit. I was also able to attend the Community College League of California conference.
I am participating in a research project with NACCE (National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship) leaders and faculty to publish a book about entrepreneurial experiences. The book will be published this month to recognize Global Entrepreneurship Week.
As a reminder, SDCE recently voted to initiate the process of adding the word "college" to the name of the institution. Results of the survey support overwhelmingly (75%) to consider San Diego College of Continuing Education as the organization's new name. This week SDCE's Executive Governance Council unanimously approved the proposal and next month the SDCCD Board of Trustees (BOT) will vote on this request. If the BOT approves, the final step will be approval from our accreditor, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Have a wonderful weekend and please stay safe.
