Dear Colleagues,

A full cohort of SDCE administrators, faculty, and classified professionals attended the ACCE (Association of Community and Continuing Education) Drive-In Virtual Fall 2020 conference. Faculty and classified professionals were also encouraged to attend the College Promise Careers Institute 3-day summit with leading educators from a variety of organizations including government, higher education, and philanthropy.

SDCE Outreach shared details and application information about the County of San Diego's Rental Assistance Program. College and Career Transition Centers distributed information to students about a virtual job fair hiring for ARC, the largest and most comprehensive provider of services to children and adults with disabilities in San Diego County. Employment opportunities included areas such as food service, caregivers, respite professionals, and administrative assistants. SDCE's CalWORKs collaboration with the County of San Diego supports students who may be interested in pursuing CalWORKs (CashAid) Benefits, CalFresh, and Medical. Workshops are now held weekly to support students who have lost their jobs or those struggling financially.

Rising to Success Veteran Services held a virtual Veterans Day Address with featured keynote speakers and two SDCE Veteran student panelists. SDCE students were invited to attend an interactive seminar hosted by San Diego Mesa College to learn about how to keep feelings balanced while using the internet during an unprecedented pandemic. Students heard strategies and techniques to support mental health and manage stress.

As you know, SDCE recently voted to initiate the process of adding the word "college" to the name of the institution. Results of the survey support overwhelmingly (75%) to consider San Diego College of Continuing Education as the organization's new name. This suggestion will now be brought before the SDCCD Board of Trustees for consideration.

Have a wonderful weekend and please stay safe.

Sincerely,
