Dear Colleagues,

Yesterday, SDCCE hosted the annual Board of Trustees Campus meeting for a virtual presentation streamed live from the Educational Cultural Complex. The presentation received many accolades from the board members and the Chancellor. As always, our students stole the show. Faculty presentations from Diana Vera-Alba and Sheyla Castillo were outstanding. Our community partner, Tom Lemmon, from the San Diego Building and Construction Trades Council was a rockstar. The videos and remarks provided a positive representation of the wonderful work that you all do each day. I hope many of you were able to attend.

Recently many of you participated with more than 200 of colleagues in SDCCE's Faculty Appreciation virtual event: Out of this World held to honor and celebrate all faculty and counselors who have been working through one of the most challenging years of their careers as educators.

The Stars On the Rise annual scholarship event was held virtually with more than 120 participants. Students received $68,000 in direct scholarships and awards, plus $1.3 million in other supports through grants and funding. Faculty have participated in the Racial Equity in Mathematics Leadership Institute, a professional development opportunity focused on creating a movement for closing racial equity gaps in introductory transfer-level math courses for Black, Latinx, Native American, and Pacific Islander students.

SDCCE's Sustainability Committee coordinated two events to increase awareness about Earth Day. Career and College Transitions held a series of resume and interview workshops and coordinated a virtual employer spotlight for students looking for available jobs in the automotive industry.

Star Rivera-Lacey, Ph.D., Vice President of Student Services attended the prestigious Aspen Presidential Fellowship Institute for Community College Leadership training this week. Participants from throughout the nation convened to discuss leadership principles that focus on leading an institution through transformational change, and developing strategic institutional agendas that lead to equitable student outcomes. This week I participated in board meetings for Goodwill Industries, and the ABC 10 News Community Advisory Board.

Have a wonderful weekend and please stay safe!
