This week over one hundred faculty, staff, administrators, and students participated in the President's Spring Forum event, which featured our student guest speakers from the Immigrant Support Program who shared their experiences at SDCCE and reminded all of us about the importance of the work we do to help students succeed.
SDCCE hosted a press conference at the Educational Cultural Complex last week for the opening of the vaccination site. Several members of the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor, and I attended with local press. Classified professionals participated in the annual professional development STAR Conference, which included various workshops such as using Microsoft Teams; team-building; a presentation from AFT and a keynote address "You, Identify & Cultural Competency" by Daquanna Harrison. Eligible students have been invited to participate in SDCCE's Virtual Commencement 2021 Event in May.
The Office of Planning, Research and Institutional Effectiveness presented student enrollment, progress, and transition data to support the development of WIOA continuous improvement planning. Student Equity and Outreach distributed information to students about the designated COVID-19 County of San Diego Rental and Utilities Assistance Program and how to apply.
SDCCE's Vice President of Instructional Services, Dr. Michelle Fischthal attended the California Community Colleges Chief Instructional Officers Virtual Spring Leadership Institute. Our Foundation Executive Director, Dr. Laurie Coskey, and I made a presentation to the Tuesday Group on SDCCE’s Rising2Success Pathways program—a learning community serving homeless adults over age 24 with career and college preparation. We also met with representatives of the National Science Foundation to develop a new STEM-focused credentialing program for working adult students.
Have a wonderful weekend and please stay safe!
