The Office of Student Services has started to provide direct cash aid to spring enrolled SDCCE students to support academic success. CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act) funding will be distributed over the next few weeks.
SDCCE CalWORKs counselors and classified professionals continue online services for students and staff via virtual sessions to assist with questions, issues, and inquiries about the program and services. SDCCE College and Career Transition Centers continue to share job opportunities and virtual hiring events with students. SDCCE's Immigrant Support Program hosted San Diego Miramar College for a virtual program to inform SDCCE students about transitioning to college. The event focused on English language learners and understanding supports and resources available.
SDCCE continued to celebrate Black History Month into March with a presentation from Joy De Gruy, Ph.D. sponsored by the Distance Education Initiative. The webinar, Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome and Healing as a Country, outlined the history of slavery in our country, its current impacts, and discuss how we can begin to heal as a country.
The SDCCD Online Learning Pathways is hosting a series of virtual guest presentations and live synchronous webinars for Open Education Resources (OER). All SDCCD staff, faculty, and administration are invited to participate. President Cortez met with Dr. Ben Justice, President of the History of Education Society. SDCCE will host the organization’s annual conference in fall 2021.
