Recently, San Diego Miramar College extended an invitation to the SDCCE community to join LGBTQ+ Safe Zones training. SDCCE's Office of Planning, Research and Institutional Effectiveness presented the results of the Qualitative Study: SDCCE Student Enrollment Journey at the Noncredit Regional Research and Planning meeting, which serves noncredit research practitioners from across the state. SDCCE Research and Planning Analyst, Jesus Rivas and SDCCD Research and Planning Analyst, Marc Grabiel, presented the results of the project that was developed to understand SDCCE student experiences before, during, and after their enrollment, and its input has been used to develop strategies for improving student enrollment, retention, and completion.
SDCCE's Immigrant Based Support Program held a virtual global student community forum so students could share direct experiences about working in the health care industry. SDCCE's Career and College Transition Centers (CCTC) held several virtual interviews and resume workshops for students.
SDCCE partner organizations (SANDAG, the San Diego Workforce Partnership, and the San Diego Building and Construction Trades Council) were awarded a seven-figure grant to train disproportionately impacted populations for careers in the 22 unions in the region, and the first cohort of students is being recruited. All students with the right to work are eligible to apply, but SDCCE is strongly encouraging program completers in the Skilled and Technical Trades to complete applications. The Executive Director of the SDCCE Foundation and the Dean of CCTC presented at a Work Well Meeting, co-sponsored by the county’s Health and Human Services department and the San Diego Workforce Partnerships.
As a reminder, I encourage you to save the date on February 24, 2021, and attend an event to honor and celebrate Chancellor Carroll and her Legacy of Female Leadership. The San Diego Chapter of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges is hosting this free, virtual celebration and you may register at EventBrite to receive the Zoom URL.
In closing, I hope you relax over the long weekend and are able to recognize the Chinese New Year Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year, which is tomorrow, Friday, February 12. This traditional festival celebrates the beginning of a new year.
Have a wonderful long holiday weekend and please stay safe!
