Dear Colleagues,

SDCE fall semester began this week and faculty and classified professionals pulled together to make enrollment and navigating campuses as easy as possible for students. I appreciate and thank you for your patience as we continue to face challenges and solve problems with the implementation of Campus Solutions.

SDCE was chosen as the Heather Van Sickle Entrepreneurial College of the Year and will receive this prestigious award on the main stage at the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE) conference in October.

Before the Transition is a company invested in providing disadvantaged students, veterans, foster youth, and formerly incarcerated with clothing and or training to be job ready. The company will make a substantial donation to SDCE’s College and Career Transition Centers to support SDCE students on the pathway to employment. The donation includes 300 new men’s suits, shirts, ties and shoes, plus women’s clothing and shoes. The SDCE Foundation received a donation of 400 new children’s books from the San Diego Council on Literacy (SDCOL). The books were donated to SDCOL from the Molina Foundation and will be distributed through SDCE’s child development students and SDCEats! Farm to Family Fair attendees with help from Child Development Project Assistant Barbara Resultan and Acting Dean Linda Osborn.

Assembly Bill 1727 (Weber) related to noncredit census date passed out of Senate Appropriations and will now go to the floor for consideration.

I am very proud to report that SDCEats! Farm to Family Fair served more than 400 students and community members at the monthly community event this week. SDCE students and employees distributed 10,000 pounds of produce to combat food insecurity.

SDCE automotive program faculty Bryan Perrin will participate in a radio show on AM760 KFMB (tune in Saturday, 9/7 at 7 a.m.) to promote SDCE’s free career training programs. SDCE Information Technology faculty member Will Olmstead was invited to peer review academic articles as part of the Technical Program Committee for IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Tale 2019 Conference "Creative & Innovative Education to Enhance the Quality of Life.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,
