Dear Colleagues,

This week SDCE hosted San Diego County Treasurer Tax Collector Dan McAllister at the Educational Cultural Complex (ECC). Mr. McAllister toured the free career training programs at ECC and the San Diego Gateway to College and Career (SDG2CC) program and met with myself and SDCE’s Foundation Executive Director Dr. Laurie Coskey to learn more about SDG2CC and opportunities to support the workforce development programs.

SDCE employee Mr. Chao Xiong was recognized by Mayor Kevin Faulconer and United States Senator Dianne Feinstein for his dedication, commitment and leadership service to the Hmong community in San Diego. Mr. Xiong maintains the CASAS data and manages the CASAS testing for all of SDCE. Congratulations to Chao for this recognition.

Rising to Success Centers hosted the San Diego Rescue Mission at Cesar Chavez Campus during a pathways partnership meeting. SDCE’s monthly Farm to Family Fair served approximately 1,000 students and community members, distributing over 20,000 pounds in fresh produce. The SDCE Foundation secured a contract to provide customer service training next month for the San Diego Housing Commission.

Outreach participated in several events with tabling and/or workshops including the National City Chamber Auto Heritage Festival and Car Show; Assemblymember Weber’s 7th Annual Health Fair and Back to School Kickoff at O’Farrell Charter School; National Night Out sponsored by the San Diego City Police department, and Passport to Life at San Diego City College. Thank you to the faculty, staff and administrators who work together to support these important events.

In closing, I strongly urge all employees, but especially adjunct faculty and classified professionals, to attend Convocation to review SDCE's 2018-2019 accomplishments and to examine our 2019-2010 institutional priorities. Enjoy the remainder of your summer.
