Dear Colleagues,

Over the past week, outreach, student services and faculty continue to help students navigate the online enrollment system by setting up and/or accessing student portals through Campus Solutions at SDCE campuses. Thank you for your patience and for providing this critical support to students.

The SDCE Is Black History campaign launched to bring awareness to the Historical Preservation Committee efforts to protect the rich history of the Educational Cultural Complex (ECC). Please continue your support of the campaign by sharing praise about the people, ideas, and moments in history that inspire the advancement of diversity, inclusion and social justice using #SDCEIsBlackHistory on your social media channels.

Outreach attended the San Diego Re-entry Roundtable committee to inform the community about SDCE programs and services and to learn from other committees and create connections for potential future collaborations. Discussion focused on delivering services for prospective and current immigrant/refugee, undocumented, and Dreamer students. With the support of Rising to Success, a team of faculty and counselors formed a work group to generate ideas to assist SDCE’s immigrant students.

SDCE hosted a delegation of 16 educators, officials and civil society leaders from 15 countries in Africa who are in the U.S. as part of the International Visitor Leadership Program to explore the topic of empowering youth through workforce development. The delegation learned about the San Diego Gateway to College and Career program; free career training programs, the San Diego Promise, and the role that community colleges play in vocational education and pathways to college.

We are only 4 weeks away from the Coretta Scott King Inaugural Benefit: A Gospel Brunch to Support the Preservation of the Educational Cultural Complex and already over 200 tickets have been sold. Thank you to the faculty and staff who have already secured tickets that support funding necessary to launch a capital campaign to renovate ECC’s historic theater. We want as many people as possible to have an opportunity to support the event with your attendance or a sponsorship; therefore, the planning committee has determined the location of the event will be the Educational Cultural Complex.

Have a wonderful weekend!
