Eligibility Requirements
A successful applicant cannot have any convictions listed in the Disqualifying Penal Code Sections. Review the list carefully to avoid wasting time and effort by training, testing, and submission of fingerprints. Students cannot receive the required criminal background clearance if you have been convicted of violations shown on the list. Many violations on the list are automatically denied certification.
Additionally, any convictions, other than minor traffic violations, will be reviewed by the California Department of Public Health and may be denied. If you have questions about disqualification due to violations, please contact the California Department of Public Health at 916-327-2445 or visit their web site.
It is recommended that students demonstrate a 9th grade reading proficiency by satisfying one of the following options:
- Completion of college level English class with a grade of C or above in an accredited institution. Students meeting this requirement must set up an orientation appointment.
- Take a recommended assessment test in English, followed by an orientation. Students choosing this option must set up an assessment test and orientation appointment.
Entrance Requirements
The application packet is provided at the orientation and includes two forms: a physical exam form and a Tuberculosis (T.B.) exam form. Important: Do not receive a physical exam or a TB exam before you have the application packet.
The Job Training/Certificate Program is free; however, there are expenses of approximately $350 for books, uniform/shoes, a CPR card, physical exam, TB exam, and state certification exam. Students are responsible for transportation to and from off-campus clinical locations.
