Steps to Apply for a Teaching Position

Minimum Qualifications to teach Standard minimum qualifications for non-credit community college programs. See attached.
Employment positions Part time - maximum number of hours assigned per week 14.75. Contract positions rarely opened
Benefits Health insurance not provided to part time instructors at the present time.
Salary Starting hourly rate for part time instructors: Approximately $ 37 - $ 44 an hour depending on education (MA, etc)
Procedure for applying for a teaching position
  1. Go to the following website: www.sdccdjobs.com and complete the application online. Follow these steps to access the application:
    1. Click on “Search postings” on the left.
    2. Under “location, click on Continuing Education.
    3. Under job category, click on Continuing Education non-credit faculty/ part time/ substitute/ adjunct hourly.
    4. Click on “Search.”
    5. Click on English as a Second Language. Read the description, especially the list of minimum qualifications. If you do not have the exact minimum qualifications, you need to complete the “request for equivalency” form on the left.
    6. Click on “Apply for this posting.”
  2. Print a copy of your completed application and send it with a copy of your resume and an unofficial transcript of your educational experience and credentials to the address below. If your degree is from an institution outside the United States, you will need to have your academic coursework evaluated by an official agency.

  3. After application is screened for minimum educational qualifications by ESL Committee, applicant receives a letter.
  4. If applicant meets the minimum qualifications, he or she is requested to contact the ESL Resource Office to set up a demonstration lesson (teaching for 20 minutes in a beginning level classroom demonstrating an appropriate technique).
  5. After passing the demonstration lesson, the applicant is placed in the pool and can be hired as a substitute or instructor at any of the 6 campuses.
