Welcome to San Diego Continuing Education’s
Emeritus/Older Adult Program

The Emeritus program provides more than 300 classes per week throughout San Diego for older adults on a path of lifelong learning. Classes are well-researched and specifically designed to keep older adults healthy, active, and engaged, while promoting positive aging through education.

Courses are divided into 4 categories:

Health and Wellness

Learn how to develop a comprehensive plan to improve physical and mental health and prolong personal independence. Engage in activities designed to enhance the quality of life and address issues related to aging. Participate in classes such as: Nutrition, Personal Health and The Aging Process, Brain Fitness, and Walk Your Way to Health.

Humanities and Social Sciences

Develop a sense of personal empowerment through continued learning that demonstrates self-awareness and application of the knowledge, experience, understanding, and wisdom that one attains in later adulthood. Use critical analysis of issues to foster informed opinions and judgments. Attend classes like: Social Studies, Law and the Retiree, Literature, and other exciting classes, to discuss past, present and future events that influence society and shape lives.

Creative Arts

Use your creative and aesthetic interests to stimulate cognitive health and cultivate positive aging. Take advantage of your interests and aptitudes in the arts to enhance mental acuity, fine motor skills, creativity, and art appreciation. Apply these skills for personal and monetary gains. Learn Drawing and Painting, Ceramics, Chorus, Orchestra, Music, Art Appreciation, Drama, and other creative courses.

Career Enhancement

Increase your capacity to effectively communicate your experience, wisdom, and skills in order to re-enter or stay competitive in today’s workforce with Effective Communications and Job Search Skills for Older Adults classes.

While course content in the Emeritus Program is designed to meet the needs and learning styles of adults 55+, anyone may attend and all ages are welcome. Classes will be held as long as half of the students are age 55+.
